This is an extract from A Great Buddhist Sage, Shatideva's Bodhicharyavatara which is one of His Holiness The Dalai Lama's (as well as mine) favourite prayer dedications. Pray you will join me in making this positive universal prayer dedication.

May all beings everywhere
plagued by sufferings of body and mind
obtain an ocean of happiness and joy
by virtue of my merits.

May no living creature suffer
commit evil nor ever fall ill
may no one be afraid nor belittled
with a mind weighed down by depression.

May the blind see forms
and the deaf hear sounds
may those whose bodies are worn with toil
be restored on finding repose.

May the naked find clothing
the hungry find food
may the thirsty find water
and delicious drinks.

May the poor find wealth
those weak with sorrow find joy
may the forlorn find hope
constant happiness and prosperity.

May there be timely rains
and bountiful harvests
may all the medicines be effective
and wholesome prayers bear fruit.

May all who are sick and ill
quickly be freed from their ailments
whatever diseases there are in the world
may they never occur again.

May the frightened cease to be afraid
and those bound be freed
may the powerless find power
and may people think of benefitting each other.

For as long as space remains
for as long as sentient beings remain
until then may i too remain
to dispel the miseries of the world.

I would like to this opportunity to wish all of you, my dear friends and readers, A Truly Blessed New Year!

Here's to wishing that you have the hindsight to know where you've been, The foresight to know where you are going, And the insight to know when you have gone too far.

Please also accept my most sincere apologies for any misgivings and unintentional hurt that I may have caused you in any way.

"Sarva Mangalam!" (Tibetan wish for all things good)

"Walk on a trail of loving kindness
Walk on a path of compassion
And all else around you will be beautiful."
 Every Blessing

Anton, I would want to put this prayer in a kinda like a poster and frame it. I have read it several times before. I recite the Om mani padme om one daily. This one is very soothing and uplifting. You know, I had a strange dream on new year's night. I dreamed that I was climbing this very steep mountain and when I climbed to the top, it was foggy but I saw to my left was an ancient Buddha statue and to my right not far away was a white but worn out Guan Yin's statue. I was looking at both statues before I woke up. It was a feel good dream but I woke up tired because of the climb. Today I read this universal prayer. How bizzare! Have a wonderful and healthy 2010!

Merv@ never too late. Thanks so much. :)

Rose @ Rejoice! I'm sure you have an affinity to the Ever-Compassionate Kuan Yin (Chenresig). Om Mani Padme Hum is my favourite too as it encompasses prayer for liberation from samsara to all sentient beings. It is the most selfless mantra. Peace be with you. OM AH HUM! ^_^

Jaclyn @ Thanks so much for asking, but I'm afraid I've to turn down the offer for now as I'm involved in setting up a religious blog for a temple. In the future perhaps. Thanks once again. ^_^
