Water For Elephants

Watching the movie Water For Elephants recently reminded me of a story about "breaking free from the bond of mental chain" that I read sometime ago, and which I wanted to now share with you............

"It quite sad that most people are like the circus elephant. Have you ever seen a giant elephant in an indoor arena tied to a little wooden stake. That huge creature can pick up two thousand pounds with its trunk, yet it calmly stays tied. Why? When that elephant was just a baby, and not very strong, it was tied by a huge chain to a stake that was planted to the ground. Regardless of how hard it tried, it could not break the chain and run free. After it a while it just gave up. Later, when it is strong, it never attempts to break free. The "imprint" is permanent. "I can't! I can't!' it says. There are millions of people who behave like this creature of the circus. They have been bound, tied and told "You'll never make it," so many times they finally call it quits. They may have dreams, but the "imprinting" keeps pulling them back."

Rosie the 52year old elephant was an exception to the matter. Unlike her peers, she challenged the norm and did not allow her freedom to be bound by a chain and stake;  her joyous wisdom of hiding from her tyranical owner of her uncanny ability to remove and replace the stake at any suitable moment to her own whims, finally resulted in her freedom and changed the course of her life, and that of her guardians Jacob and Marlena too. A lesson to be learnt from Rosie's wisdom is for us to eliminate the source of our limitations; let not the "imprints" hold us back anymore. And when we mentally break-free, the boundaries will be removed from our future and thus, only then we are able to release ourselves from the meekness of our "bonded" behavious to thrive and forge ahead to meet the challenges and rewards that life so richly offers.

"Walk on a trail of loving kindness
Walk on a path of compassion
And all else around you will be beautiful."
Every Blessing

Have not seen the movie. Thinking outside the box by paradigm shift could transform a person indeed.

Another great post, sounds like a good movie. Positive thinking - be out-going, innovative, creative...dare to take challenges, dare to fail.

Too bad...that these days our young people are very negatively inclined, expecting everything to be given to them on a silver platter and for everything, the answer is "Dunno" or "Cannot!"

Some sort of mini enlightenment?

Shane, it was quite a nice movie based on the true story written about the Benzini Bros circus.

Bananaz, yes we need to always challenge our minds. too powerful to ignore what potential lies ahead.

Suituapui, it's sad to see the current situation whereby the new generation are spoonfed, so much so that they are too dependant and to an extent, somewhat lazy to challenge themselves.

William, far far from it :P

Thanks guys for your comments ^_^

Alice, it's defeat even before they go into battle.

Wenn, yes, but we should put more thought before we do them ;)

if only there is an on-off switch to the mental chain. How to put it into real practice then?

Wow...really inspiring. It is true that we are all burdened and held back by ourselves and ourselves only. Have you read The Secret? It is a good book. :)
