: IF THE OBAMA-MAGIC WAS APPLIED TO MALAYSIA.
It is nice to know that Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi thinks anyone can become PM in Malaysia. (more recently echoed by Ex-PM Mahathir Mohamed via Aljazeera's Riz Khan Talkshow, December 4th, 2008) They must think we are uneducated fools and blind to the realities of being the "immigrants" and ethnic minorities in Malaysia.
If Barack Obama was unfortunate enough to have been born in Malaysia, he couldn't even get near to become the general manager of PKNS, never mind, president of the US, the most powerful position in the world.
His hilltop abode would have crumbled in a landslide, and then to add-insult-to-injury, be further blamed for choosing to live at that location.
If he became a born-again Christian in his teenage years, keeping in view of his father being of African Muslim, Jakim would have hauled him off to a religious rehabilitation detention centre in Malaysia, and his kids would have been taken away from him.
Michelle Obama would then have been advised by our racist religious authorities to divorce him.
Just for not being Malay, Umno would have overlooked any form of qualification, nor talent, nor intelligence, and they would have denied him any form of residencency, forget a citizenship and he can but only dream about any potential government scholarships, job promotions or a place in a public university.
Like Vijay Singh, world champion golfer, he would have been forced to immigrate to live elsewhere.
Like Shah Rukh Khan, he would have to give Bollywood a shot and make himself an A-grade actor filming in Malacca before he could even get any form of acknowledgement for his services to the country.
If Barack Obama had advocated equal opportunity and equal rights in Malaysia,he would have been demonised by Utusan Malaysia as being anti-Malay and anti-Islam and taken into custody and living at Hotel ISA just like what happened toTeresa Kok, and he would have had Molotov cocktails chucked into his parent's house, and had curly daggers waved at him.
If he had advocated rule of law like Zaid Ibrahim, they would called him a traitor to the Malay race.
If he advocated democracy like Anwar Ibrahim, then Umno, the world champions of fitnah would have fixed him for sodomy.
If he was a leader of a small Barisan Nasional component party like PPP (People's Progressive Party), which had a change in conscience to request for the amendment of ISA, he would been chided, asked to leave the coalition and even branded by a "begger" , amongst other foul things.
If like the jailed Hindraf 5 leaders, Barack Obama tells us to 'hope for change' and have the 'audacity of hope' then it would have been again Hotel ISA and water cannons for him and his supporters.
For exercising his right to choice of practicing freedom of religion and conscience, and following the religion of his choice, he would have been charged with apostasy, and don't forget, some of our Malaysian politicians have advocated death for apostasy, just to prove their religious standing in the eyes of their ethnic voters.
Both the Current and Ex-Premier's statements that anyone can be PM in Malaysia are a sick joke and a clear attempt to mislead the public, and to assuage the collective privileged guilt of Umno's wealthy and corrupt warlords who head a party dedicated to race supremacy, religious and racial apartheid, and the worst type of racial and religious politics.
A big YAY that Barack Obama will be the next president of the US. It goes to show that ordinary voters in the most powerful country in the world are prepared to reject the evils of racism, and embrace solidarity with their fellow voters inthe context of equal rights and equal citizenship.
They have shown long-suffering ordinary Malaysians what real muhibbah looks like instead of the dagger-waving displays, beating upwomen delegates at peace conferences, and nameless criminals chucking Molotov cocktails into women MPs' houses - that is, what we would term the Biro Tata Negara brand of nation-building by Umno.
It's a doubt if Barack Obama can have any impact on Malaysia's racist politics but it is good to know that people in America can still make a common stand with their fellow voters across racial lines for the common good.
Umno should be challenged to invite Barack Obama to Malaysia to show him the political and judicial wonders of our Malaysian system.
Challenge Umno's gutless politicians to tell Barack Obama,president-elect of the United States of America what opportunities he would have had if he were born in Malaysia.
Do not challenge me to love my country and voice the truth.

wow..u express your views very well. i am useless . i shut off what i don't like to think about. you could say i have given up hope for change
While the world is facing change EVERYDAY ... some of the so called politicians in our country still live in their own 'kampung' and create and rants about racial issues! If unused brain is priceless, then i think theirs are definitely worth more than the bailout figure for AIG because they hardly use them!
Obama-ism huh?
Unfortunately over here...need not us say... sometimes i do wonder, does something drastic have to occur before real changes are implemented? Like during May13...
For me - politician in general are hypocreets... Esp u know who...but i will assume it will remain this way for a while.. unless something does happen...
Till then, rulership now is all dominated by a bunch of selfish ppl
Anyone can be a PM! That's a whole lot of crap! The Malaysian constitution does not even allow such things to happen, when it comes to the issue of Chinese or Indian being a Malaysian PM. This was highlighted by a Malaysian politician weeks ago.
this is malaysia - it will never happen in our lifetime, and many more generations to come.. after all... what is in for us?
the new world has emerge..
the only thing that all of us can do is using our power to vote in the next general election!!
Sad. But I guess our country's taking baby steps even talking about it.
jus read Takashi's comment : i think the day will come but it is not yet here but when it will come is not unimaginable unlike before 8th March 2008
Beng ~ thanks Beng :)
Live ~ They juzt act like no-brainers.
Calvin ~ Pray our country does step back into the dark ages of racial riots.
Mannpriedo ~ if not mistaken , the Consti did not rule out a non-Malay fm being PM. But it's never gonna be as the candidate must be fm a majority vote. :)
Takashi ~ *haiz* Am afraid I have to agree with you on this. :)

Nothing is forever and our country will change, just be patient. Look at our neighbours up & down. We're better than Thailand and Singapore is better than us. I almost migrated & fled to UK last year because I was feeling worse than what you've just expressed,
I don't think Obama's victory will have any impact on our country as our government has their "unique" way and perspective to rule the country. They are smart enough that they could twisted the fact and changed their words wihout using what given by god within their head. Ahem, don't say so much if you don't wanna pay "Hotel ISA" a visit.
Twilight ~ Still good that changes are there. Just pray and hopefotr the best. :)
KeenYee ~ Hotel ISA??? Hmmmm, not really afraid at all. Fyi, I've taken part in the candlelight vigil. :)
Have a great brand new week guys! ^_^
